Cornish Films Conquer FestivalsCornish films have been screened at festivals from the Scillies to Denmark this Summer, showcasing the best that Cornwall has to offer.Cornwall Film has helped to place Cornish film at the heart of a wide range of film festival programmes. Feature films “The Wrecking Season”, “New Reed”, “The Rabbit”, and short film “Kernow Kick-Ass Kung-Fu Kweenz” played to great acclaim at the first ever Flensberg Film Festival, taking the most high profile slots on Friday and Saturday nights. Nigel Hicks, FUEN Vice-president and Cornishman, presented the documentary programme to a packed house of Danish and German film fans in Flensberg. He said “The festival programmers were extremely impressed by the Cornish selection. Particularly with The Wrecking Season, which was thought worthy of a special commendation. People came up to me afterwards to say how much they had enjoyed the films and hearing the Cornish language.” Cornish film also took centre stage at the Port Elliot Lit Fest, where O-Region and Little Song Films presented a fantastic programme of Cornish shorts. The Wrecking Season and New Reed packed out the film tent at Port Elliot and were screened at The Scilly Film Festival on St Mary’s, along with a wide range of documentaries, shorts, archive material, and young people’s work.
