Cornish Talent Selected for New Researcher Posts

Cornwall Film’s Researcher Scheme launched on Thursday 9th March, creating three new full-time jobs for talented local TV researchers.

After a tough selection process, Sam Coles and Chris Rowe, both from Falmouth, and Alex Conrad from Truro have been selected to take up this unique opportunity. The Researchers will be supported by specialist training and mentoring from Dr Chris Truran, Course Leader, MA in Television Production, University College Falmouth.

Pippa Best, Project Director, Cornwall Film says “Alex, Chris and Sam bring a fantastic range of skills – the ability to research and develop great original ideas, an understanding of what audiences want, tenacity, and a commitment to building the media industry in Cornwall. All three have been educated in Cornwall, demonstrating the great media training opportunities that exist locally. UCF are working with us to grow Researchers’ expertise, and to support local Production Companies’ as they expand into new markets. These three will be developing the programmes we’ll see on our TV screens in the next few years, so remember these names!”

The three new posts will be hosted by local production companies Seven Stones Media and Oscha Productions. Oscha Productions of Penryn produced ‘Marine Team’ and are currently working on two documentary features ‘The Heart of a Garden and ‘Wildlife Wrecks and Reefs’. Managing Director Martin Gaunt says “Cornwall Film’s Researchers Scheme presents a fantastic opportunity to develop and nurture local talent, something we passionately believe in at Oscha. We’re thrilled to be welcoming Sam to our team.”

Seven Stones Media, based in Menheniot, are a newly formed company headed up in Cornwall by three Producers with over 50 years broadcast experience between them: Jeremy Gibson, former BBC Controller of Documentaries, Peter Edwards formerly of Denham Productions and Mike Cunliffe.

Managing Director Peter Edwards says “Seven Stones is delighted to be part of this innovative scheme. We currently have over 40 network programmes commissioned. Working with Chris and Alex will help to generate many more - building the media industry in Cornwall and creating further opportunities for new talent to develop here.”
