Open Space Innovation Event - Feedback

Cornwall Film, Cornwall Media Focus, Digital Peninsula Network and University College Falmouth held an inspiring and diverse event on 18 June.

Hosted by innovation guru Steve Hinde, Open Space: Innovation looked at how converging media can stimulate and inspire Cornwall's media and ICT sectors. Discussions were hosted on topics as wide ranging as Cornwall's USPs and new opportunities for corporate communications.

Stand-out discussions and ideas that were highlighted by attendees were those on digital archiving, Cornish media engine/digital TV/Cornwall TV, community services and content, and practitioner networking.

Other areas highlighted were sustainability and a process for ensuring payment for content used by emerging technologies, establishing effective collaboration, creative use of current and emerging media for marketing, surf/skate films, creating experiences, a Virtual Cornwall, online theatre, a Cornwall soap opera, The Mood Engine, innovation and leadership and using mixed multimedia and developing digital technologies.

Suggested future plans included a clear desire for more open space/networking events, potentially including funders. Other events and training ideas suggested were a conference on Cornwall digital media futures – including the public sector, technical courses, team screenwriting, a media centre, a producer/supplier showcase event, archiving, marketing and advertising, and a poetic film workshop.

Everyone said that they had met at least one new person that they hope to work or play with in the future, so expect to see some exciting projects taking shape...
