Last chance to apply for Specialist Mentoring by 16 March.
Funding for Specialist Mentoring is still available if you apply by 16th March 2007. This is your last chance to benefit from this invaluable scheme. You don’t need any match funding, just a clear idea of how you can grow your skills and business.
Could you benefit from help to hone your technical skills, or guidance on how to make the most of new technology? Is there someone out there who can help you to develop your great idea for a film, TV or digital media project? An expert who can point your business in the right direction, provide support to develop your project effectively to reach your audience, get you great publicity or provide access to key contacts, research and funding?
The answer is probably yes – and we can help you find them. Do you know what you need but not where to look for it? Do you already have the ideal person in mind? Either way, we can help provide an opportunity for you to work together.
Cornwall Film’s Specialist Mentoring scheme offers a unique opportunity to access the sector-specific expertise you need to move forward to the next stage of your career. The scheme has already benefited over 20 businesses in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, providing mentoring in legal issues, business planning, executive production, distribution, and the development and marketing of proposals, proofs of concept and screenplays. We have supported practitioners working in animation, film, factual programming, and digital media.
Christiaan Bailey from Ocean Motion Pictures received mentoring in business development and support to develop marketing/distribution agreements. He says “Mentoring enables you to reflect all your ideas, hopes and ambitions against somebody with vast business experience. They can then assist you in organising your business into a structure that makes these goals a more achievable reality, steering you away from disaster and towards success. I would highly recommend the mentoring that Cornwall Film offers, it has helped me to see my business in a realistic and sustainable light.”
Jill Neville and John Davies of Gwynhelek Productions worked with Andy Paterson (Producer of Girl with a Pearl Earling) and legal mentor Colin Miller on developing a slate of drama projects to take to market. Jill says, “Working with Andy Paterson has enabled us to benefit from the experience, talent and insights of a genuine industry heavy-weight. He has ensured we are totally realistic about the industry, the project, the audience, and the market; and been generous with his enthusiasm and editorial input. Having Colin Miller on board turned our negotiations round completely. Colin saved us a great deal of money and taught us much about how deals are structured and how the industry works”.
Local production company Awen worked with documentary producers Jeremy Gibson and Beatrix Milburn on developing a company business plan, and new factual ideas to showcase their skills and support the growth of the company. Denzil Monk says, “Building a constructive and sustainable working relationship with our mentors has been extremely beneficial for Awen and will hopefully lead to the successful fruition of projects we have developed with this support“
Writer Pauline Sheppard worked with two script editing mentors Emmanuel Oberg and Mary Davies. Her project Dressing Granite, is now going into production as part of Cornwall Film’s Target Talent Scheme. Pauline says “Emmanuel made me decide to have one last go at writing after nearly giving up, a fabulous inspiration. Mary has been a brilliant practical help. I cannot praise them or this specialist mentoring enough“.
Cornwall Film can provide investment of up to £1500. Our contribution is paid direct to the mentor. Beneficiaries just have to match this ’in kind’ with their time. Please contact the Cornwall Film office on 01872 240 900 or find out more and access a simple application form online here [1].
